Monetary donations. Our budgetary needs include:
- Buddhist and meditation books and other printed materials for our classes, for prison libraries and for inmate penpals.
- Meditation cushions for use in prisons.
- Milage reimbursements for driving to our venues (we carpool whenever possible and try to schedule classes in parallel to optimize our carpools,
- Support of foundations that provide free books to inmates, at least to the extent that we order or encourage inmates to order free books.
- Audio-visual materials for use in classes.
- Volunteer education, especially resources for volunteers to educate themselves about prisons and meditation instruction.
- Office expenses.
- PO Box used for receiving penpal letters.
Tax-deductable donations may be made by check payable to Austin Zen Center. Please clearly earmark the check for "prison projects" to ensure that it is credited to the prison project account.
Non-Monetary Donations. Other needs include:
- Books on Buddhism and meditation for individual inmates or for donation to prison libraries. Donations in excess of our needs, including books on other topics will be passed on to the Inside Book Project to be made available to the the general Texas prison population.
- Meditation cushions.
